I’ve written and edited documents for government agencies, large and small businesses, not-for-profit organisations, academic institutions, publishers and individuals. My clients have asked me to write or edit their content on topics such as health, education and training, First Nations issues, legal matters, governance and public administration, foreign policy and international development cooperation.
In partnership with Kylie Smith Design, I worked with the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) to edit the report from the independent Religious Freedom Review (2018). I completed the copyedit in a tight timeframe, helping to ensure a consistent style throughout the report. I’ve also edited and proofread PM&C’s corporate plans (2023–24 to 2025–26) and 2024–25 annual report. In 2012, I joined a team led by communications firm WHH to edit parts of the Australia in the Asian Century white paper. As a WHH associate, I edited the National Cities Agenda consultation paper (2016), drafted an easy-read paper on Indigenous recognition in the Constitution (2016 and 2017), and edited PM&C’s Legislation Handbook (2017).
My experience in international relations and development cooperation added value to my editing and proofreading of several annual reports (2020–21 to 2024–25) and a corporate plan (2025–26) for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Three of those annual reports won a Silver Award at the Australasian Reporting Awards (in 2022, 2024 and 2025). DFAT also engaged me to edit and proofread Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 (2023), as well as its New Colombo Plan 2021 scholarships booklet, where I helped ensure accuracy and consistency across 125 scholar entries. I partnered with Longueville Media to edit the diplomatic history book Australia and the United Nations (2012), as well as Smartraveller consular publications. In partnership with design agency Studio Binocular, I reviewed website copy for the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office within DFAT (in 2023 and 2025).
Working for the Department of Finance, I edited the report from the 2018 independent review of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, helping to ensure the report’s recommendations were clearly expressed. I also edited and proofread the department’s 2017–18 annual report, which won a Bronze Award at the 2019 Australasian Reporting Awards.
Working for the Treasury, I played a support editorial role on the report from the 2020 independent review of Australia’s retirement income system. I made plain-English edits to a technical appendix on economic modelling, and provided feedback to the production team on style issues.
In partnership with design studio Typeyard, I edited and proofread the 2018–19 annual report of the Department of Education. I also worked with Typeyard and the former Department of Education, Skills and Employment to edit a report for the Education Council on the 2020 review of senior secondary pathways into work, further education and training. For both projects, I provided sound suggestions on style, structure and content. In 2011, as an associate of WHH, I edited the Review of Funding for Schooling: Final report (the Gonski report) and the final report from the review of higher education base funding.
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) engaged me to edit a background paper for the 2024 review of the Australian apprenticeships incentive system. I helped DEWR achieve a single voice and consistent application of author–date referencing throughout the paper, in line with Australian Government style, and offered suggestions to help readers navigate the paper. I also assisted with referencing in the review’s final report.
I worked with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in 2018 and 2019 to edit and proofread detailed reports for the Transition and Wellbeing Research Program, which examined the impact of military service on the health of serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members and their families. I helped to ensure the clarity and accuracy of the reports, including by improving tables and figures, and making sure that referencing followed the designated style.
I carried out thorough edits of numerous Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) corporate plans (2018–19 to 2025–26) and annual reports (2018–19 to 2024–25), helping to ensure consistency and accuracy throughout the documents. I also carefully edited several of the ANAO’s annual audit work programs (2017–18 to 2021–22), helping the agency to clearly convey its forthcoming audit programs to the parliament, other government entities and the public. In addition, I edited the ANAO’s internal performance reporting manual to help ensure the guidance was clear and easy to use.
I worked closely with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission – Austrade – to edit and proofread numerous annual reports (2009–10 to 2022–23). I played a key role in collaborating with Austrade’s in-house team, as well as graphic designers and indexers, to produce high-quality reports. My efforts helped Austrade achieve a Gold Award for its annual report at the Australasian Reporting Awards on 5 occasions (2018–2020, 2023 and 2024). I provided valuable editorial inputs into the 2022 program closure and evaluation reports for the International Freight Assistance Mechanism. I also edited the final report from the 2015 review of the Export Market Development Grants scheme (as an associate of WHH).
I edited and proofread several annual reports (2016–17 to 2021–22) and corporate plans (2019–20 to 2022–23) for the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA). I also edited a suite of Personal Property Securities Register compliance and branding documents, ensuring consistency across the documents. In addition, I edited the quarterly Personal Insolvency Regulator e-newsletter, crafting effective opening paragraphs for articles, applying plain English, and reviewing the online test newsletter before distribution.
I helped Export Finance Australia (then known as Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, or EFIC) to communicate its messages effectively to Australian businesses. For example, I drafted the initial copy for the Export Finance Navigator website aimed at small to medium-sized exporters. I wrote media releases and articles that generated positive publicity for EFIC, and my persuasively written case studies and fact sheets promoted the corporation’s products to exporters. I also helped to write, edit and proofread several annual reports (2008–09 to 2011–12), edited an engaging internal newsletter, and reviewed governance and customer service documents.
Cancer Australia engaged me to edit the National Gynaecological Cancers Service Delivery and Resource Framework (2011) and the National Framework for Consumer Involvement in Cancer Care (2011). I suggested enhancements to the style, structure and clarity of the documents.
In partnership with design studio Typeyard, I edited the 2018–19 annual report and 2019–20 corporate plan of the Commonwealth Grants Commission (CGC). I also reviewed the CGC’s internal style guide and website content, focusing on plain English and a consistent tone and style.
In partnership with Longueville Media, I edited and proofread event booklets for NSW Roads and Maritime Services (now part of Transport for NSW), including for the 2014 diamond jubilee of the Remembrance Driveway linking Sydney and Canberra.
I worked with Training Services NSW experts on a range of projects from 2013 to 2015. I wrote a plain-English document that outlined major reforms to the vocational education and training sector. I clearly described an application and assessment process for training organisations. I edited a major tender document and an introductory guide to the agency’s new customer relationship management system. I delivered a series of writing workshops – and developed workshop notes and activities – to help Training Services NSW staff write concise and effective briefs.
I did a substantive edit and copyedit of the 2014–15 annual report for the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) NSW – now known as the NSW Education Standards Authority. I meticulously checked details and suggested structural and stylistic changes to improve the report’s readability and navigability. I also proofread the report, working directly with the graphic designer to correct any remaining errors and improve the layout.
I worked with business communications firm ABC Editor from 2013 to 2016 to write and edit compelling customer success stories for major US technology company Oracle. Drawing on source material, I wrote engaging copy about the benefits that Asia–Pacific business customers experienced when they deployed Oracle’s products. I followed US English conventions and a detailed Oracle style guide to produce clear and concise copy for the web.
Indigenous Connection engaged me in 2025 to edit its report on improving water security for remote communities in the Northern Territory. I worked with the author to increase the report’s impact by enhancing the clarity, consistency and accuracy of the text, and providing guidance on style, tone and grammar.
I worked with heritage consultants Context (now GML Heritage) in 2011 to improve the structure and clarity of a thematic local history for the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council.
Award-winning Chenchow Little Architects turned to me for help with a keynote speech to be delivered at the National Gallery of Australia in 2009. I worked with the client to enhance the structure and content of the speech, and to ensure that the tone was appropriate for the audience.
In 2009, I provided strategic and editorial support to medical writing business Meducation for a substantial Australian Government tender process. My insights into public sector tender requirements helped my client to produce a strong and persuasive tender. The tender was successful and opened new business opportunities for Meducation.
In 2011, Starfish Services engaged me to write a survey-based report on issues and barriers for Indigenous apprentices in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory. I worked with the client to develop recommendations for the former Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. I also wrote a persuasive company profile for Starfish Services.
In 2019, I worked with Specialised Solutions Group to draft fresh, concise copy for its new website. I showcased the company’s personnel, facility and supplier sourcing services for businesses in the hospitality, events and other industries. I also drafted a company profile and helped the managing director to refresh his LinkedIn profile. In addition, I proofread the live website for quality assurance.
In 2014, I did a structural edit and careful copyedit of a company profile for Colouride, a Sydney-based painting and maintenance business. Working with the managing director and office manager, I used clear and convincing language to outline the company’s services and values. I also edited the managing director’s covering letter to enhance its impact on potential customers.
Since 2020, I’ve provided editorial services to DT Global (formerly Cardno) to support its ongoing management of the Australian Government–funded program ASEAN–Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT). I’ve edited a broad range of ASEAN-ACT documents, including progress reports, work plans, strategies, research papers, website copy and a handbook. I also delivered a writing skills presentation for program staff. In addition, DT Global engaged me to edit an investment design document for a bilateral economic cooperation program. I also worked with Cardno to edit its 2021 progress report on delivering the Australian Government’s Cyber and Critical Tech Cooperation Program.
Tetra Tech (formerly Coffey) contracted me from 2020 to 2021 to provide editorial services for the Pacific RISE impact investment program, which it managed on behalf of the Australian Government. I edited a range of materials, including progress reports, research papers, case studies, blog articles and a program completion report. I developed a style sheet to help maintain consistency across the program’s content. Tetra Tech also engaged me to edit the report from a mid-term review of the ASEAN Strategic Action Plan for SME Development 2016–2025.
Since 2022, I’ve provided editorial support to Cowater International in its management of the Australian Government–funded program INKLUSI – the Australia–Indonesia Partnership Towards an Inclusive Society. I’ve edited a variety of program documents, including progress reports, work plans, an issues paper and a situation analysis, and developed a style sheet for consistency. Cowater also engaged me to edit a completion report for the Australian Government–funded Gender-Responsive Equitable Agriculture and Tourism (GREAT) program in Vietnam. In addition, I worked with Cowater to edit a book, funded by Global Affairs Canada, on indigenous Balinese customs and traditions, helping to ensure clarity and consistent use of Canadian English.
Since 2024, I’ve supported Adam Smith International (ASI) to publish briefs and case studies as part of its delivery of the Australian Government’s Partnerships for Infrastructure program in Southeast Asia. The publications discuss current issues in the energy and transport sectors, and Australia’s cooperation with Southeast Asian countries on infrastructure projects. I helped ASI to ensure that the briefs and case studies followed Australian Government style, and I supported the authors to create clear diagrams and accurate references. I proofread the designed briefs and case studies for quality assurance.
From 2017 to 2019, I worked with international development consultants Research and Communications Group (RCG) to craft persuasive, engaging and informative copy for the consultancy’s new website. I carefully edited text relating to RCG’s services, projects and staff, and provided detailed feedback to the project manager and web designer before the site went live. I also drafted a persuasive 2-page capability statement that was part of RCG’s successful tender for an Australian Government supplier panel.
The Australian National University’s College of Business and Economics engaged me to copyedit its undergraduate and postgraduate student guides for 2019 and 2020. I helped to ensure a high level of consistency, accuracy and clarity across both publications. I also helped the college to produce clear and engaging web content on its graduate research programs. In addition, I edited the college’s 2019 Alumni Hall of Fame booklet, its 2020 research overview, and its 2020 Indigenous Management Training Program brochure.
From 2009 to 2011, in association with Longueville Media, I edited a series of foreign policy papers and lectures prepared by the Lowy Institute, an independent think tank that conducts research into international political, strategic and economic issues from an Australian perspective. I drew on my diplomatic experience and postgraduate studies in international relations to provide insightful editorial suggestions.
The Melbourne School of Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne engaged me to edit the Framework for Professional Competency in the Provision of Supportive Care (2011). This framework was an outcome of the Supportive Cancer Care Victoria project, which was conducted under the auspices of the Melbourne School of Health Sciences. My careful copyedit contributed to a more readable and user-friendly document.
The National Cancer Nursing Education Project was conducted under the auspices of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, with funding from Cancer Australia. The project team engaged me to edit the second edition of the National Professional Development Framework for Cancer Nursing (2009). My edits enhanced the clarity, structure and consistency of the document, and I worked directly with the client’s graphic designer in the typesetting and design phase.
EBSCO Publishing (now EBSCO Information Services) engaged me in 2009 to author a series of foreign policy articles aimed at high school students. The articles earned praise from the managing editor and were published in EBSCO’s Australia/New Zealand Points of View Reference Centre.
In 2025, I supported the Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association (AIPA) to prepare material for a series of workshops on providing culturally responsive psychology services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I carefully edited an extensive facilitator guide for AIPA’s 3-day workshop, focusing on clarity, consistency, accuracy of references, a logical heading hierarchy, and navigation tools to enhance usability.
Advance Care Planning Australia (ACPA) is a national program enabling Australians to plan for their future health care. In 2017, I edited a series of workshop manuals and slides for Austin Health – the host organisation for ACPA at the time. I helped to ensure accuracy, consistency and clarity across all materials, which were aimed at both facilitators and participants. I also introduced cross-references to make the manuals more user-friendly.
The Aurora Foundation builds the leadership capacity of professionals working in galleries, libraries, archives, information management and museums. In 2010, I wrote an informative and engaging article on results from a survey of participants in the Aurora Leadership Institute program. I also designed graphs to help bring the survey results to life.
Working collaboratively with a LexisNexis Australia team in 2016, I wrote practical guidance for businesses on complying with work health and safety law in Australia. I explained complex legal concepts in plain English for non-lawyers and worked closely with legal experts during the review process.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse inquired into how institutions in Australia with a responsibility for children managed and responded to allegations and instances of child sexual abuse. In 2013, I worked with the commission’s stakeholder relations team to write a booklet and fact sheets in plain English for people who may be interested in telling the commission of their experiences.
